This is an unidentified West country loco departing Charing Cross station visible at the top of the painting. The loco is still in southern railway livery, the area to the right has since been demolish when the festival of Britain was held in 1950’s, this makes the scene to be around the period of 1947-48 around the time the railways were nationalised and this became Southern region.
